Remembering VJ Day

Hundreds of forces personnel will descend on the National Memorial Arboretum to mark the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender to the Allied forces in the Second World War.

Victory in Japan Day was met with relief as it brought six years of conflict to a close. This month’s national commemorative event will pay tribute to all those who served in the Far East and Pacific during that time, with flypasts from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (shown) and the Red Arrows.

The ceremony will be broadcast live on BBC One with a national two-minute silence at midday.
