The super hevyweight unleashed a barrage of brutal blows on rival Lance Corporal (LCpl) Ryan Kirk in an assault that saw the coaches from 2nd Battalion, The Rifles (2 RIFLES) throw in the towel to prevent further damage to their fighter.

The move came just seconds into the first round, and the outcome sealed a six-three win for the airborne personnel as they took the title for an eleventh time.

With a walkover already in the bag, the paras surged into a 4-0 lead following an electrifying start to proceedings in the ring.

Private Callum Evans began the charge with a unanimous points verdict against Rifleman Jerome Camariosa at lightweight – a result that was repeated by Private Sam De Vaux Balbirnie at welterweight and Private Lucas Snow at light middleweight.

Such a dynamic start meant they could seal the silverware before the interval, however, Rifleman Jordan Als had other ideas.

The middleweight used his height advantage to good effect to beat Private Jack Crouch on a unanimous decision.

Further glory followed for 2 RIFLES as Rifleman Jacob Kataryna proved too strong for Private Jake Readings, with a succession of stinging right-hand shots forcing a first-round stoppage.

And when Rifleman Ryan Merchant inflicted similar punishment on Private Jacob Willis in another firstround stoppage, the Northern Ireland-based outfit were dreaming of a comeback.

However, LCpl Sam Dobson ended their hopes as he took the heavyweight honours, leaving Francis to conclude proceedings in style.

“We had such a strong start,” 3 PARA’s coach, Staff Sergeant Shane Sadler (RAPTC), told Soldier Sport.

“It would have been nice to have got the job done at the interval as we knew their next two boxers were tough.

“When they got their wins, it piled the pressure on. Sam Dobson then had a more tactical fight; we knew his opponent would hold and be a bit untidy, so it was a case of taking time and winning it in the last round.

“As coach, I’ve tried to tidy up some technical things, get the boxers to think tactically and when aggression is needed, encourage them to use it.

“I could see what Stan was going to do. When someone is that fit and aggressive, you can see why they are so successful.”
